The history of the Sturgeon fairs go back to the beginnings of Sturgeon. Throughout the years, the dates of the fair have varied to accommodate the weather, farming, and other area fairs. Many groups and individuals have organized the fairs throughout the years. Just prior to becoming the Sturgeon Summerfest, Mike & Brenda Sutton organized downtown festivals to help raise funds for individuals with cancer and for the Honor Flight ministry - which fly's WWII Veterans to Washington to tour the WWII memorial.

In 2010 the Sturgeon Chamber of Commerce organized the first "Sturgeon Summerfest" and voted to hold it the weekend of the first day of summer (as a summer celebration). During the first Summerfest there were a few vendors and one bounce house along with some games and activities. In 2011 inflatable activities were added along with 10 craft booths and other activities such as: Sand Volleyball Tourney, go-cart racing, Horse Pull, Tethered Hot-Air Balloon rides, Friday night Fish Fry, BarBQ and more. In 2012 - an all day FREE Concerts and a performance stage were added, along with a Car Show, horse shoe tournament, 20+ craft vendors, mini-rod pull, and a variety of food vendors. In 2013 the Summerfest made big additions. We said "fair"well to our inflatable activities and welcomed in 12-15 Carnival Rides for all ages along with food trailers and games. An Archery Shoot was enjoyed by all participants. This was our first year with the Little Cowpoke Rodeo - it was a big hit! An open Talent Show was added to the free Music Stage along with JugglingJeff from St. Louis that entertained the crowd. Over 40 athletes (from across the state) participated in the first Xtreme 5k Run with 10 obstacles.

With the continued growth and popularity of the Sturgeon Summerfest, it was recommended to the City of Sturgeon that a new City committee of the "Fairs & Festivals" committee be formed and that the Sturgeon Summerfest join that committee. On March 24, 2014 the City of Sturgeon voted to establish the "Fairs & Festivals" committee and the Sturgeon Summerfest joined the City of Sturgeon as a means of growing and supporting the Sturgeon community.

The Sturgeon Summerfest is only made possible through volunteers who give of their time, sponsors who faithfully give of their financial support, the City of Sturgeon, the Fairgrounds Board, the City Park Board, and the Sturgeon Rec Center Board for their continued support, and the community of Sturgeon and it's guest who come out each year and enjoy the Sturgeon Summerfest!
